Description	:	James Henry Mitchell, Sr., son of Alexander and Augusta Mitchell, was born near New Hall, Benton Co., Iowa, March 11, 1877, and died December 14, 1938, at the age of 61 years, 9 months and 3 days. Mr. Mitchell early in life decided in favor of agriculture as a career. For 28 years he shared the fate of the South Dakota agravarian, but with continued retrenchment in farm activities returned to Iowa. On March 15, 1899, he married Edith Hathaway at Kingsley. Mitchell of Canby, Minnesota, Mrs. Vern (Dorothy) Behl of Scotland, South Dakota, twin daughters, Mrs. Virgil L. (Ina) Jastram of Scotland, South Dakota, and Miss Inis Mitchell of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and James H. Mitchell, Jr. at home. He was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Hazel, who died in infancy. He is also survived by five brothers, Oscar Mitchell of Watertown, South Dakota, Lewis Mitchell of Galien, Michigan, Robert Mitchell of Ruthland, South Dakota, John and Wallace Mitchell both of Humboldt, South Dakota, three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Thomson of Seattle, Washington, Mrs. Adolph Kempf of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Mrs. Rex Pippett of Brandon, South Dakota, plus three aunts and one uncle. His parents, sister Mary and brother Walter preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the Pierson Church of Christ with Rev. B.H. Coonradt officiating. Burial was made in Good Hope Cemetery.
