Description	:	LAS VEGAS, Nev.-- Edith Newell, 95, died Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Las Vegas, Nev. Mrs. Newell was born Nov. 23, 1916 at Wakefield, the daughter of Charles and Lydia (Seitz) Potter. She grew up in Wakefield and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1934. She played violin for Abbey Clark Hogan's All Girls Orchestra during her junior and senior years of high school. She attended cosmetology school in Frankfort, Kan. She managed her own beauty shop in Kansas and out of her home in South Dakota. She married Dean Newell in 1937. Mrs. Newell was born Nov. 23, 1916 at Wakefield, the daughter of Charles and Lydia (Seitz) Potter. She grew up in Wakefield and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1934. She played violin for Abbey Clark Hogan's All Girls Orchestra during her junior and senior years of high school. She attended cosmetology school in Frankfort, Kan. She managed her own beauty shop in Kansas and out of her home in South Dakota. She married Dean Newell in 1937. They made their home in Berkeley, Calif. for five years, returned to Kansas and farmed east of Wakefield for 20 years then made their home on a farm near Rosholt, S.D. for the next 36 years. In 2000, they moved to Las Vegas, Nev. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two sisters, Sylvia Fyfe and Lola Jones. Survivors include one daughter, Judy Anderson of Las Vegas, Nev.; one son, Gary Newell and wife Gloria of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 19 at the Wakefield Chapel, Wakefield, with the Rev. Mike Lacer officiating. Burial will be in Timber Creek Cemetery, Clay County. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the Wakefield Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Wakefield Farm Museum. Online condolences may be made at www.nsrfh.com.
