There was always room for one more plate and you were always given a hearty welcome to the meal. The butter was hand churned. Bread and cookies baked. Potatoes were a must at meals, and usually left overs were chopped with a can and fried for breakfast. (Crane Cookbook) Ed had many horses and trained wild horses. Fabian Crane 1909-1978 Obituary 15 October 1942 PIONEER OF SOYTHEAST POTTER DIED WEDNESDAY Edmond J Crane, 83, and pioneer of southwest Potter county, died at his home Wednesday morning, Oct 14.Funeral arrangements were not complete at this writing. Born August 31, 1859, in Fayette County, Ia, he was married December 30, 1888, to Sarah Virginia Beckner, who survives him. Their ten children are Chancie A. Crane, Lebanon, Mrs Alfred Eygabroad, Edgar, Simon and Fabian Crane of McCleary, Wash., Mrs W.A. Poage, Alsea, Ore., Mrs Frank Sunderland, South Range, Mrs Chester Fewins, Piolet Grove, Mo., Mrs Mary Stearns Lebanon Obituary unknown paper Edmond J Crane, a resident of Potter county for 48 years, died at his home October 4, 1942, at the age of 83 years, one month and 14 days, after an illness of three and a half months. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday. Burial was in Lebanon Cemetery. He was born in Fayette county, Ia., August 31, 1859. HJe came to South Dakota in 1881. Was married to Sarah Virginia Beckner of Miner county, S. D. in 1888. To this union ten children were born. He is survived by his widow, 10 children, 36 grand children, one great grandchild, two sisters, Mrs Millie Goodrich and Mrs Louie Dingman, both of Fort Dodge, Iowa and many other relatives.
