Read More	Charles Crane Rites Thursday Died Suddenly March 18th Services held at Powell, Internment there Many friends in Ipswich and the Powell community were deeply saddened to hear of the sudden departure of a good neignbor, a sincere friend and an outstanding christian brother. Charles S. Crane was born in Harbin County, Iowa, September 15, 1867 and passed away at his home in Powell Township at 9:00 o'clock a.m., March 18, 1940 Brother Crane was summoned suddenly into the preence of the christ whom he served. After doing the morning chores, he came to the house and while preparing for breakfast was called higher and never partook of earthly good but was promoted to dine on heavenly manna and so shall he ever be with the Lord. Brother Crane was a man of principle, square in his dealings with his fellowmen, he discharged his duties toward God and man. He loved the House of God and could say with the Psalmist, "I was glad when they said unto me let us go up to the house of the Lord." When a young man while attending a revival service, he was marvelously converted and walked with the Lord. For sometime, but losing his grip on God, he was a little later reclaimed under the labors of Rev. J.B> Freeland and untied with the Free Methodist Church, remaining a member of that of that church until his departure. Mr. Crane has resided in Powell Township, during the past thirty-three years and the community has been blessed because of the beneficent influence radiating from his Christian Life. Mr. Crane married Miss Effie Eller on October 5, 1889. This union was blessed with ten children all of whom are living except one son Guy, who died in infancy. This happy couple celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary, on October 5, 1939, mid a family reunion and the presence of many well wishing friends. He is survived by his wife, four sons and five daughers, the sons are Ralph of McCleary, Washington. Orville E. of Ipswich, South Dakota; Mrs. Earl Pfleger of Minneska, Minn; Mrs Roy R. Rose of Scott City, Kansas; Mrs. Marian Brand of Lead, South Dakota; and Mrs. W.M. Williamson of Lead, South Dakota. There is one surviving brother, Edmond J. Crane of Lebanon, South Dakota. One brother, Sherman, preceded him; he is also survived by three sisters; Mrs. Lilly Trudell of Deering, North Dakota; Mrs. Lillie Goodrich of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and Mrs. Louie Dingman of Fort Dodge, Iowa; four sisters preceded him in death. There are twenty-one grandchildren and four Great, Great Grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the Powell Church last Thursday afternoon., Rev. C.A. Evans of Rapid City; Rev. Leyh of Richland Church and Rev. L.D. Harris of Ispswich, officiating. After the services at the church interment was made in the Powell Cemetery. (from newspaper clipping in family scrapbook.)
