Description	:	FULLERTON -- Edmund I. Gdowski, 90, of Fullerton died peacefully on Friday, April 15, 2016, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton, with the Rev. Richard Whiteing officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery at Fullerton, with military rites by American Legion Post No. 151 of Fullerton. Read More	FULLERTON -- Edmund I. Gdowski, 90, of Fullerton died peacefully on Friday, April 15, 2016, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton, with the Rev. Richard Whiteing officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery at Fullerton, with military rites by American Legion Post No. 151 of Fullerton. Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton is in charge of the arrangements. Ed was born Jan. 5, 1926, east of St. Edward to Matthew and Anna (Kula) Gdowski. He attended Elementary Districts 17, 26 and 18 and graduated from Belgrade High School in 1943. During his youth, he enjoyed athletics, including basketball and baseball. He competed on the Belgrade baseball team. Ed served in the U.S. Army, Sergeant First Class, from 1950 to 1952. As a member of the 2nd Armored Division, he was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a tank commander. On May 28, 1953, he married Mary Lou Heal from Fullerton at St. Peter's Catholic Church. To this union, three daughters and a son were born. Ed worked at the Fullerton Community Feed and Seed for several years and then entered the insurance business, developing Eddie Gdowski Insurance along with his wife, Mary Lou. They built the business from 1962 to 1988, with Farmers Mutual Insurance as their primary company. Ed and Mary Lou sold the business in 1988, and it now operates as First National Insurance Agency, where Mary Lou continued working until November 2015. Ed was a very active member of the Fullerton community throughout his life. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, American Legion Post 151 (where he held multiple offices and was a 65+ year member), VFW (50 years), Eagles, Sportsmen Club, and the 40 and 8 (50 years). He also served on the Fullerton Volunteer Fire Department (25 years), the Fullerton School Board, and the Fullerton City Council for several terms. Ed was very proud of all of his family. Ed and Mary Lou attended as many programs and athletic events as possible for their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and traveled across the state and country to do so. He also enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Most importantly, Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and loved by many relatives and friends. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of Fullerton; three daughters and a son, Nancy (Mike) Folden of Lincoln, Patty (Tom) Reilly of Valley, Kathy Gdowski of Lincoln and Tom (Becky) Gdowski of Grand Island; six grandchildren, Chris (Selena) Schuster, Brian (Chelsea) Schuster, Erin (Dan) Koborg, Kelsey Reilly, Jacob (Katy) Gdowski, and Andy Gdowski; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Lawrence Gdowski of Fullerton, Ben (Mary) Gdowski of York, and Adam Gdowski of Missouri Valley, Iowa; a sister, Angie Hansen of Fullerton; and many nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law, Martha and Jackie; and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Hansen. He was also preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Volcott and Helen (Heal) Bake, and nephew Frank Bake, his Columbia River fishing family.
