Elliott, who passed away at an Ames nursing home Saturday, Oct. 20, was held Thuesday at 2 p.m. in the Presbyterian church in McCallsburg with the Rev. James D. Ronsom in charge. Music was furnished with Miss Cleo Tett at the piano and the singing of two hymns "Just as I Am" and "Abide With Me" by a ladies trio, Mrs. Guy Mills, Mrs. Roger Menzel and Miss Catherine Craig. Flowers were cared for by Mrs. John Schauper and Mrs. Henry Mehlow. Henry Mehlow served as usher. Long-time friends of the family served as casket bearers: Gustave Ludwig of Nevada, and Jeffrey Hougan, Ernest Hougan, Clyde Baumgardner, Jake Gjerde and Ray Menzel. Burial was made in the family lot in the Warren township cemetery. Memorial gifts were given in honor of Mr. Elliott. Edmund Randolph Elliott, son of Lemuel and Thankful Elliott, was born near Farmington, Ill., on Oct. 22, 1861 and died in Ames, Oct. 20, 1951. Had he lived until Monday he would have been 90 years of age. He came with his mother and sister by train to Nevada in the fall of 1876 and they spent the winter on the farm where George Minemann now lives. The following year they moved to the farm located one mile west, and one and one-fourth miles south of McCallsburg. On Sept. 21, 1886 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Blair in Nevada and on March 1, 1887 they established their home on the same farm where his mother had located ten years earlier which continued to be their home for almost 50 years. To this union were born three children: Dessa M. Stackhouse, of Hubbard, Lois J. Arrasmith of Ames and Clyde R. Elliott of Nevada, who survive him. Also nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren survive. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1936. He was the last emmber of his immediate family, having had four sisters and a brother. They retired from the farm in 1936 having sold it to J. I. Gjerde and planned on taking life easier after many years of hard work, and to do some traveling. Mrs. Elliott only lived a few months after their retiring and passed away in June, 1936 while away on a visit. Since the death of his wife and the breaking of the home he had been quite restless and spent much time traveling. He was a patient for some time this fall in the Story City hospital. Then the last two weeks he spent in an Ames nursing home. Mr. Elliott had looked forward to reaching his 90th birthday and had made plans for its celebration. Being of a pioneer family Mr. Elliot had seen many changes in the community such as the establishing of the town of McCallsburg, the building of both railroads through the town and the mode of transportation. He was well known throughout Story county as a successful farmer and stock raiser. Relatives from a distance included several nephews and nieces, Elliott Stackhouse of Galesberg, Ill., Mrs. and Mrs. C. H. Stackhouse of Cambridge, Ill., Frank Roush and Albert Shark of Keokuk, Mrs. Margha [sic] Tucker, Mrs. Carl Collet, and Mrs. Verl Lizely of Kirk, Colo., Mrs. Ray Riemer of Marshalltown. The Dorcas society served lunch to the relatives adn friends at the Dorcas hall after the services.
