Description	:	Edna Lou Ellen Thompson passed away quietly at her home in Laramie on August 13, 2015. She was 93 years old. Edna was born in Ord, Nebraska on October 11, 1921 to Pearl and Harry Salter of Greeley, Nebraska. She was raised in Greeley, Nebraska on the family farm. Edna graduated from Greeley High School in 1939, being the class valedictorian. Edna was born in Ord, Nebraska on October 11, 1921 to Pearl and Harry Salter of Greeley, Nebraska. She was raised in Greeley, Nebraska on the family farm. Edna graduated from Greeley High School in 1939, being the class valedictorian. She moved with her family to Erickson, Nebraska, where she met a young, budding newspaperman who was working part-time for her father delivering gasoline supplies to local farmers. On June 10, 1940, Edna left Erickson with Robert S. Thompson to travel to the town of Giltner, Nebraska, where they were married. It was a marriage that was to produce 3 children, Robert, Jr., Sandra and James. They remained inseparable until Robert passed from this world in December, 2005. The couple moved to Craig, Colorado, before returning to Nebraska to work in Tekamah. It was here that Edna gave birth to their first child, Robert Jr. in 1941. This period came to an abrupt end on December 7, 1941. During World War II, while her husband was a member of the United States Army Air Corps, Edna moved to Grand Island to live with her parents. During this time, she was employed at the Cornhusker Army Ordinance Plant, assembling artillery shells for the war effort. While in Grand Island, Edna was visited by her husband after he “self-arranged” a weekend furlough. Daughter Sandra was born in February, 1944 in Grand Island. With World War II behind them, Edna and Robert and their children moved first to Craig, Colorado, and then Walla Walla Washington, before settling in Laramie, Wyoming in 1949. It was here that their third child, son James was born. Edna loved to cook, volunteering to help prepare meals for many events and occasions, including the Jubilee Days Street Barbeque, and the Centennial, Wyoming Lions Club Buffalo Barbeque. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She was active in the First United Methodist Church in Laramie, and was employed for many years by the Albany County School District, first as a cafeteria cook at Laramie Senior High School, and then as supervisor of the lunchroom at Laramie Senior High School. Helping others was part of her nature. Whether it was ferrying kids home from football and basketball games to driving shut-in friends around town to doctors’ appointments, grocery shopping and other needs, Edna would always be available to help. She was known affectionately as “Aunt Babe” by her nephews and nieces. She is survived by her son, James of Cheyenne, Wyoming, grandsons Duane Trost, Centennial, Wyoming, Peter Thompson of Greeley, Colorado, and Steven Thompson of Cheyenne; and granddaughters Jane Yates of Eugene, Oregon, Donna Trost of Bainbridge Island, Washington, and several great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Robert, son Robert, Jr., and daughter Sandra, her parents, Harry and Pearl, and all of her brothers and sisters. A celebration of Edna’s life will be held Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at Montgomery-Stryker Mortuary, in Laramie, Wyoming. Internment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Scotia, Nebraska at a later date, where she will be reunited with her beloved husband, Robert, son Robert, Jr., and daughter Sandra. Friends wishing are encouraged to make a donation to Hospice of Laramie, Wyoming.
