McKay died Wednesday Sept. 15, 2004, at Good Samaritan Center, Estherville. Visitation was at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel, Ringsted. Edna Violet Peitersen was born March 3, 1911, near Ringsted, daughter of Fred and Carrie (Nielsen) Peitersen. She received her education in the Ringsted schools, graduating from Ringsted High School. On Dec. 26, 1941, Edna was united in marriage to Wayne McKay in Fairmont, Minn. Wayne was serving in the United States Army during World War II. Edna worked for the United States Post Office until about 1943, when she joined Wayne in South Carolina. In 1944 Wayne was stationed in the Philippines so Edna moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where she lived with her sisters, Elvira and Jeanette. After Wayne’s discharge in 1946, the couple moved to Ringsted. They moved to Gruver in 1947, living there until returning to Ringsted in 1955. Edna went back to work at the post office and retired in 1975. The couple enjoyed traveling and trips to Arizona, Texas and California. Wayne passed away Oct. 28, 2002. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ringsted; church treasurer for over twenty-five years. Edna was also a member of WELCA and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include a son, a daughter, four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers and five sisters.
