Description	:	Edward (Ed) Allen Schoen, 68, of Adams died August 30, 2016 after losing his hard fought battle against cancer. He was born on March 3, 1948 at the Beatrice Lutheran Hospital to Alfred and Geneva Frazier Schoen. He was confirmed at the American Lutheran Church on April 7, 1963 in Adams and later married Pamela Conkel. Read More	Edward (Ed) Allen Schoen, 68, of Adams died August 30, 2016 after losing his hard fought battle against cancer. He was born on March 3, 1948 at the Beatrice Lutheran Hospital to Alfred and Geneva Frazier Schoen. He was confirmed at the American Lutheran Church on April 7, 1963 in Adams and later married Pamela Conkel. Ed began farming at the age of 11 and did so until May 2016 when he was forced to quit due to his illness. He took great pride in what he did every day and was a great role model for his sons and four grandchildren. He joined the Adams Volunteer Fire Department in 1975 and served in such capacity until 2010 after he and his son received co-volunteer firemen of the year, one year after his son Ryan was severely burnt from an injury sustained at work. Ed served as Fire Chief for several years and was fortunate to have had the opportunity to serve several of those years alongside his son Ryan. Ed was elected as a member of the Adams Town Board in 1982 and served in that capacity for several years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially when he was able to do so with his sons and grandchildren. He started teaching Hunter Safety Education classes in 1988 and Bow Hunter Safety Education classes in 1994 for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission as a volunteer. He did so for 25 years and had the opportunity to teach his youngest son, Ryan and his grandson, Bowen. Ed's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. His four grandchildren meant the world to him and he often said, "They are what make life worth living. They are my world." No matter how tough a day he may have had, his grandchildren would always make him smile. Ed often thought back over his life and the life he had with his wife and two boys. He would say he felt guilty for having to work so hard and missing a big portion of his boy's lives while they were growing up. However, both of the boys would tell you they knew he loved them with all his heart and by being the man he was, they turned into the men they are today. Ed taught them to be hard workers, take pride in all they do and cherish every moment you have with your loved ones. He often said it's hard not to take things for granted, but it is so important to "SLOW DOWN" and really enjoy the small things/moments in life. Ed will be greatly missed by all and will forever be cherished and remembered in the hearts of those that love him. Ed is survived by his wife Pamela (Conkel) Schoen of Adams; two sons, Michael Schoen and wife Traci (Hruza) Schoen of Lincoln and Ryan Schoen and wife Sarah (Stuhmer) Schoen of Adams; one grandson, Bowen Schoen; three granddaughters, Shelby, Carleigh and Caylee Schoen. He was preceded in death by his parents; aunt, Leah Schoen; uncle, Frank Schoen; uncle, Dick Schoen and many more aunts and uncles. The Schoen family wants to say a special thank you to all the friends and family who have taken the time to stop by and visit over the past several years that Ed had been sick. You will never know how much these visits meant to Ed and his family and please know that each one of you have brought a great deal of joy to Ed's life. He is truly a man to be celebrated! Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, September 2, 2016 at Cornerstone Lutheran Church, 901 Elk Street, Beatrice, with Pastor Doyle Karst officiating. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Friday at the church. Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing but a register book will be available at the Fox Funeral Home on Thursday from 8:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. and then one hour preceding the service at the church on Friday. A memorial has been established to the family's choice. A guestbook for signatures and messages of condolence is available online at www.foxfuneralhome.net. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice is in charge of the arrangements.
