Maschmann, which occurred at his home Friday night. Mr. Maschmann had been ill for two weeks previous with pneumonia, and was thought to have passed the crisis of his illness and be safely on the road to recovery. He was able to sit up in bed, and at 6 o'clock Friday evening partook of his evening meal. An hour later he was dead. Edward Christian Maschmann was born in Hartford township on Oct. 4, 1904, the son of William and Caroline Rauch Maschmann. He was educated in the country schools and attended the Victor schools for three years. He followed the avocation of his father and became a tiller of the soil. He was instructed in the chief parts of Christian faith and confirmed as a member of the Lutheran church in 1918, promising faithfulness to his Master, Christ, which promise he kept to his death. About two weeks ago he suffered a cold which developed into pneumonia. Safely he passed the crisis on Sunday, Dec. 11, and there were all reasons to hope for his recovery. However, the Lord had chosen his course to be different from that humanly expected, and he passed out of life Friday evening, Dec. 16, at the age of 23 years, 2 months and 12 days. These surviving him are his farther Wm. Maschmann, Sr., and seven brothers, William, John, Henry, Fred, Carl, Louis, and his twin brother George. His mother and a brother, Emil, preceded him in death in 1918. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 18, at 2:30, from St. James Lutheran church, conducted by the pastor Rev. Wm. Bartz. The pastor used as his text the words of John 11:4: "When Jesus heard that he said, this sickness is not unto death but for the glory of God, that the son of God might be glorified thereby." Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
