Edward Donald Rebman, 85 years of age, of Alma, passed from this life on Thursday, October 18, 2018 in the care of the Harlan County Health System in Alma. He was born November 18, 1932 to Edgar and Edna Rebman in rural Republican City, Nebraska. Edward, and brother, Lee attended a country school for his early years and Ed graduated from Republican City High School in 1950. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in Ag studies, but was drafted into the Army in 1952. He served until he received a hardship discharge due to his father's failing health in 1954. Ed married Corinne Marie Leopold in July of 1955 and soon built the home they lived in for nearly forty years while Ed farmed the surrounding acres. Wheat, corn, milo, soybeans and cattle kept Edward busy, but he always had time for his two children, Timothy Lee and Jodi Marie. Even though Ed and Corinne moved to Alma in 1995, Ed didn't retire from farming until the spring of 2015, at the age of 82. In his early years, Ed was a member of St Paul's Lutheran Church close to Republican City, and after he was married, he and Corinne were members of the First Christian Church in Alma. Later, he and his family attended the Evangelical Free Church where he was recognized for his, "work and dedication to the new building", at 1007 Main St., Alma; giving many hours to the construction of the building now called Lakeside "Fellowship." In his last years, he returned to the First Christian Church. Always faithful to the Lord and the study of the Bible, he served as: deacon, Sunday school teacher, Bible Study leader, as well as treasurer, grounds keeper and an all-around fix-it guy, at one time or another. Ed's steadfast character, frugality, and wisdom were assets he gave to the many and varied boards on which he served, including: the Mullally Township, the Republican City Rural Fire District, the Republican City Cemetery District, the Harlan County Extension, the Soil Conservation District, the Area FHA Committee, Farm Bureau, and the Alma Cemetery. In addition, he served on various church boards and committees, as well as having lifetime memberships with Farm Bureau and the American Legion. In 1963, Ed and Corinne received a Conservation Recognition Award for outstanding achievement in the wise use of soil and water conservation and its contribution to the agricultural welfare of Harlan County, Nebraska. In 1999, they were named, a Great Nebraska Family by the Family and Community Education Council. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Ed lived his life under the principle of loving his neighbor as himself and will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him back. He is preceded in death by his father, Edgar; his mother, Edna; a sister, Judy, who died in infancy; and his wife, Corinne. He is survived by: his son, Tim Rebman and wife, Diane of Alma; daughter, Jodi Bowersox and husband Kevin of Colorado Springs, Colorado; five grandchildren, Tristan Bowersox of Colorado Springs; Tracy Bowersox and wife, Jessi of Colorado Springs; Shawn Rebman of Hutchinson, Kansas; Chelsea Gillen and husband, John of Sterling, Kansas; and Jordan Rebman of Lawrence, Kansas; and one great granddaughter, Samantha Rebman of Hutchinson. Visitation was held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. A memorial in Ed’s honor can be directed to the Caring Cupboard in Alma or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
