Edward Witte was born Feb. 19, 1916, in Ida County, Iowa, one of 12 children born to Henry and Magdalena (Wunschel) Witte. He attended country school in the Ida Grove, Iowa, area through the eighth grade. He served his country during World War II, beginning in 1942. He was stationed in New Guinea, Australia and the Philippines. On Feb. 18, 1951, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Thomson in Ida Grove. They were blessed with two children, a daughter, Deb, and a son, Scott. The couple lived in an acreage near Schaller for many years. Mary Jane died July 21, 1999. He worked for Sac County, Iowa for many years, retiring in 1981. In April 2000, he moved to the Schaller Community Apartments. In August 2008, he became a resident of Char-Mac Assisted Living Community in Holstein. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church since 1948. He enjoyed time with his family, drinking coffee with friends and watching sports, especially the Hawkeyes, Cyclones and the Atlanta Braves. He is survived by his daughter, Deb. (Denis) Thompson of Webster City, Iowa; his son, Scott (LaVonne) Witte of Rock Valley, Iowa; five grandchildren, Hope (Nathan) Ribbey and their children, Hannah, Amos and Kaela, all of Webster City, Micah Thompson of Webster City and Seth, Sara and Erica Witte, all of Rock Valley; three brothers, Don (Wilma) Witte of Bentonville, Ark., Emmett (Laura) Witte of Schaller and George (Janice) Witte of Schaller; two sisters, Esther Patterson of Britton, S.D., and Irene Carstensen of Alta, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; as well as many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Jane; infant two children, Dean and Jean; a granddaughter, Hannah Thompson; his sister, Hattie Teghtmeyer; and his brothers, Roy, Clarence, Robert, Lee and Burdette.
