Description	:	Edward was the son of Charles F. and Lucy F. (Brown) Hatch. He had six siblings; Jessie M., Charles F. Jr., Annie M., Chester W., Herbert and Frances A. Edward nd his family lived on High Street in Amesbury. Several other of their Hatch relatives lived on the same street. My great grandfather graduated from Amesbury High School in 1907. It was there that he me his true love Marian Whittier, of Newton. They were married by clergyman Charles A. Towne on October 1, 1910 in Plaistow, New Hampshire. The following year they had a son, Edward G., Jr. He was their only child. For the few years of their marriage Edward and his family lived with his parents in Amesbury. In 19 when Marian's grandmother, Susan became ill Edward and his family moved into her house in Newton. This way Marian could care for her grandmother 24/7. Marian inherited the house when Susan died in 1929. Edward and Marian would live in it for the remainder of their lives. My great grandfather had a variety of jobs throughout the years. He worked at Biddle and Smart Automobile Company first as a parts maker and then as metal worker. He would take the trolley from Newton to Amesbury to get to work. In the winter often he's cross country skied from his house to work. Edward also worked as a mechanic at Easterbrook's garage in Newton. There were times when he did odd jobs to supplement his income. Edward and Marian were able to give their son a good life. Their son and his wife Ruth gave Edward and Marian a grandson, who they adored. Their grandson gave them four great grandchildren, including me. My great grandparents loved each my brothers and I immensely. Their son died of a heart attack at the age of fifty-three in 1953. His death left a major void in their lives filled with grief. Having a grandson and great grandchildren helped them get through their loss. When Marian died in 1970 Edward had been married to her for fifty-nine years. My great grandfather lived in the house that he had shared with Marian for the last seven years of his life. My father and neighbors of Edward's gave him a lot of assistance enabling him to live in the house alone. In January of 1976 Edward broke his hip at home. The following month he died at the age of eighty-six of pneumonia and old age. One footnote is that when my oldest brother David was very young he called Edward Danky for one reason or another. For the last twenty-five years of his life everyone in the family called him that.
