Description	:	Edward J. Barbur, son of John K. and Catherine Barbur, was born at Woodstock, Ill., November 23, 1868. He passed away at Clay Center, Neb., December 30, 1952, aged 84 years. He came to Fillmore county with his parents in 1870 at the age of two years, living his entire life in this county with the exception of the last four years. Read More	Edward J. Barbur, son of John K. and Catherine Barbur, was born at Woodstock, Ill., November 23, 1868. He passed away at Clay Center, Neb., December 30, 1952, aged 84 years. He came to Fillmore county with his parents in 1870 at the age of two years, living his entire life in this county with the exception of the last four years. In his early years the family lived in a dugout and he retained to the last, vivid memories of pioneer life. His parents were always active in the work of the church and probably held the first Sunday school in the county in their dugout. He attended Exeter high school and graduated from Lincoln Business College, December 20, 1893, he was united in marriage to Lillian Horne, who preceded him in death March 3, 1930. To this union were born six children. Martin Edward passed away February 8, 1930, and William Harold, September 18, 1930. Mr. Barbur served as county clerk of Fillmore county from 1902 to 1906, after which he returned to the farm he loved. Years ago he advocated the conservation and the rebuilding of soil and was always happy to talk about matters concerning the productivity of the land. December 25, 1933, he was stricken with an attack of arthritis, from which he never recovered. This condition became gradually worse and finally it became necessary for him to spend all his time in bed. However, he did manage to write extensively and carried on a regular correspondence with a wide circle of friends. October 20, 1948, he entered Smith's Nursing Home in Clay Center, where he received tender care and attention. In this home his life was made full by old friends, and new who came frequently to visit. Mr. Barbur was a member of the Methodist Church of Exeter and Stotzenberg Lodge, Knights of Pythias. He is survived by four children, John L. of Exeter, James B. of Geneva, Lucile Sole of Hastings and Howard of Augusta, Kas.; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Craven of Waukeegan, Ill., and Mrs. Gertie Rasmussen of Long Beach, Cal.; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 2, at the Methodist Church in Clay Center and Rev. Norman Smitheram of Exeter were in charge of the services. Burial was in the Exeter Cemetery.
