Hamill home Sunday afternoon and funeral services were held at the St. Joseph church Monday morning. Mr. Lucey was born at Freeport, Illinois, December 17, 1849, and received a better education than the average young man of that time. He was married to Miss Mary Elizabeth Grace at Boone, June 8, 1876. They moved to Carroll in the fall of 1878 and resided here continually until Mrs. Lucey's death January 18, 1914. In the fall of 1914 Mr. Lucey went to Storm Lake to make his home with his son, E.P. Lucey. During the many years Mr. Lucey was a resident of Carroll he was closely associated with the growth of the town. In the early days he formed a partnership with George Mlcka and for a number of years they conducted a general merchandise store under the firm name of Micka & Lucey. Later he went into the blacksmith and wagon shop business with Charles Hamilton and when Mr. Hamilton sold his interest to devote his time of the office of county sheriff, Mr. Lucey formed a partnership with Henry Wegner. While Mr. Lucey never aspired to hold public office, he was a staunch democrat and was always ready to do his share in the support of his party. He was an ardent supporter and worker in the St. Joseph church and was one of the founders of the church in Carroll, being among a dozen other men who largely were responsible for the erection of the present St. Joseph's church in this city. One daughter and three sons are left to mourn for their father — Mrs W.J. Drey, of Early; Jerry P. Lucey, of Milwaukee, Wis.; John Lucey and E.P. Lucey, of Storm Lake. Besides the children, friends and relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Lucey, of Merrill, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. George Lucey, of Remsen, Ia.; Mrs. Margaret Deegun, of Chicago; Mrs. Ellen Lovejoy and son, Joe Lovejoy, of Des Moines; Mrs. Mary Dermott, of Charlotte, Ia.; Mike Donegan, of Eagle Grove; Mrs. Belle Conroy, of Denison; Miss Susie Carver, of Storm Lake; Herbert Gray, of Storm Lake; William Kelly and T.L. Kelly, of Early.
