Pendleton, a former resident of Westfield Township and a member of a pioneer family of this vicinity, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edna Etler, of Moville, Iowa, on Wednesday, January 6, 1943, at the age of 71 years, 6 months and 17 days. Edward John Pendleton was born at Elk Grove, Wisconsin, June 19, 1871, and in his childhood came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Pendleton, to Plymouth county, Iowa, locating on a farm southeast of Akron. He made his home in this community until a few years ago, since when he had resided with his children on farms near Moville, Iowa. In the year 1897 he was united in marriage with Emma Petty. To this union seven children were born five daughters and two sons Mrs. Bessie Corbin, of Smithland, Iowa; Mrs. Clara Hahne, of Omaha, Nebr.; Mrs. Edna Etler and Earl and Raymond Pendleton, of Moville, Iowa, and Mrs. Eva Frazer and Carrie, deceased. Mr. Pendleton has been more than just a father to his children. For many years he has kept the children together, making a home for them, guiding them through their younger years into manhood and womanhood. His many kind acts and deeds will long be remembered by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn, besides his children, six grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers, Jess Pendleton, of Akron, and William Pendleton, of Brunsville, and two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Smith, of Sioux City, and Mrs. Carrie Ogden, of Akron. Funeral services were held in the Akron Methodist church Saturday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. A. A. Howe. Hymns were sung by Miss Kathleen Kennedy and Mrs. Glenn H. Wood, with accompaniment by Mrs. W. J. Brunner. Interment was in Riverside cemetery. Relatives from a distance in attendance at the services were: Mrs. Frank Etler, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Pendleton, Raymond Pendleton, of Moville, la.; Mrs. George Hahn, of Omaha, Nebr.; Mrs. Chas. Corbin, Earl Hines, of Smithland, la.; Mrs. Hattie Smith, Mrs. Nels Sorenson, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Mann, Mrs. Vincent Brown, Mrs. Roger Rush, of Sioux City, Iowa.
