Read More	Dayton Review January 5, 1933 Edward John Stephenson was born at Altoona, Illinois, September 14, 1865, and passed from this life at his home in Dayton, Iowa, on Friday, December 23, 1932, at the age of 67 years, 3 months, 9 days. His early childhood was spent at Altoona, where his mother preceded him in death when he was but ten years of age. Following her passing, his father moved to Genesco, Illinois and when twelve years old, he went with his father and family, consisting of four brothers and a sister, to Stanton, Iowa. A girl, destined later to be his wife, and her folks, wer ein the same car, and going to the same place, little realizing that later in life he and this girl were to travel together. Later he went with his father and family to Stromsberg, Nebraska, where they farmed together. On August 28, 1889, he was united in marriage to Miss Johanna Matilda Bjork at Stanton, Iowa, and the following spring they located on a farm near Stromsberg for themselves. Three years later they moved to Chicago, where Mr. Stephenson engaged in the grocery and meat business during the greater part of their thirteen years stay there. In 1906, Mr. and Mrs. Stephenson moved on a farm near Stanton, and from there came to the farm west of Dayton in 1915. In the spring of 1930, they retired from active farm work, and moved into town. A slight stroke was followed in a few days by one more severe, from which he passed away. Beside the bereaved wife, Mrs. Stephenson, he leaves to mourn his departure, three sons, Clarence E. Stephenson of Ames, Iowa; Earl R. Stephenson of Gilbert, Iowa; and Roy Stephenson, now of Chicago, Illinois. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Bonnie Lee, Robert Edward, and Joan Faye, by a brother, T.Z. Stephenson of Royal, Michigan, and by a host of relatives and friends. Mr. Stephenson was confirmed into the Lutheran Church at Stanton, Iowa, April 17, 1881, and has lived faithful in the Master's service, and in the church of his faith. His funeral was held on Sunday afternoon of last week from the Lutheran Church of Dayton, his pastor, Rev. Waldo Ekeberg, in charge, and burial was made in Dayton Cemetery. Ideal in all his relations in life, he valued the friendships that came to him, and a host of friends and neighbors will miss his genial smile, and his splendid life among us.
