Description	:	Service of Remembrance for Edward Mattis, 84, of Hettinger, ND will be Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at the Grace Baptist Church in Hettinger. Pastor Tom Caldwell will officiate and burial will follow at the Hettinger Cemetery. Visitations will be from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday and from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Tuesday at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger and one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday afternoon. EDWARD MATTIS was born on June 5, 1920 in Duck Creek Township, rural Adams County, North Dakota to Heinrich and Elizabeth (Reichert) Mattis. He enjoyed his early years living on the farm and attended rural school. On December 15, 1941 he was united in marriage to Helen Lutz of Havlock, ND. They lived on the farm until 1948 when they moved into Hettinger, but continued to farm. In 1962, Ed and his son Ray purchased the Minneapolis Moline Dealership, later expanding to Allis Chalmers, Chrysler, Plymouth and Dodge Dealerships. They operated this business until the sale of it in 1976. Ed continued to farm until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed golfing and playing cards. He entered the Hillcrest Care Center in 2002 and passed from this life at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger on February 26, 2005. He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Venita Mattis, of Hettinger and Don and Lucy Mattis, of Blaine, MN; daughter and son-in-law, Luella and Dennis Walch, of Punta Gorda, FL; five grandchildren, Donna Rae Laufer, Scott Mattis, Kim Armantraut, Kristy Mattis and Michael Walch; six great grandchildren, Jennifer (Laufer) Swindler, Devan Laufer, Zack and Zane Armantraut and Jaylee and Jarad Mattis; one brother, Albert Mattis, of Carson, ND and one sister, Lydia Follmer, of Hettinger, ND. Preceding Edward in death were his parents, an infant son in 1958, his wife, Helen, in 1998, three brothers and five sisters.
