Description	:	Albert Mattis January 26, 1914 - April 9, 2007 Funeral services for Albert Mattis, age 93 of Elgin, will be Friday, April 13, at the New Leipzig Baptist Church. Pastor Al Gaines will officiate with burial in the New Leipzig Baptist Cemetery. ALBERT MATTIS was born January 26, 1914, northeast of Hettinger, ND on the family farm in Adams County, ND to Henry and Elizabeth (Reichert) Mattis. At an early age he began working on the family farm and attended a local country school. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized August 7, 1949 by Pastor DG Schurr and became a member of the New Leipzig Baptist Church. Albert married Martha Strohscherer at the Carson Congregational Church on October 24, 1937. They lived near Carson on a farm until 1979 when they retired and moved into Elgin. Martha passed away on February 18, 1994. Albert continued to live in Elgin and when his health began to fail, he moved to the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Mott. He passed from this life there on Monday, April 9, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Mott. Albert was a member of the New Leipzig Baptist Church where he served as trustee, deacon and on the church board. He was also a Sunday School Teacher and sang in the choir. He especially loved music and played the harmonica in church and at the Elgin Care Center. Surviving family members include his son and daughter-in-law, Elmer and Bonnie Mattis, Carson, ND; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Darleen and Darell Denich, Minot, ND; Arleen and Emette Gillaspie, Winston, OR; 2 grandsons, David Denich, Rugby, ND; Duane Denich, Eagen, MN; 1 great granddaughter, Dessa Denich, Minot, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Martha, 4 brothers, Gottlieb, Henry, William, Edward Mattis, 6 sisters, Elizabeth Seidel, Rose Hepper, Margaret Purdue, Martha Sittner, Emma Albrecht, and Lydia Follmer.
