Read More	1942, Thursday October 8, The Almonte Gazette, front page ALMONTE LOSES POPULAR CITIZEN Edward Nicholson Had Been Resident of The Town For 50 Years Almonte lost an excellent citizen of long standing in the death, last Sunday, of Mr. Edward Nicholson, in his 67th year. He had lived in this town for over 50 years during which time he made a wide circle of friends who will mourn his passing. Mr. Nicholson was born in Ramsay township, son of the late Joseph Nicholson and his wife Elizabeth Leach. was twice married. His first wife, Rose Ann Letang, died in 1935, and he survived by his second wife, the former Miss Bertha Switzer of Almonte. Prior to his retirement last Spring, he was an overseer in the finishing room of the Rosamond Woolen Company. Surviving besides his wife, are two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Williamson (May) of Stamford, Conn., and Mrs. Gordon McCrum (Celia), of Smiths Fails. Two sisters, Jennie and Margaret, predeceased him. The funeral was under auspices of Mississippi Lodge, A.F. & A.M., No, 141, and was held from the family home on Colborne Street, Tuesday afternoon, to St. Paul's Anglican Church where service was conducted by the rector, Rev. J. C. Andeson,. assisted by a former rector, Rev. J. J. Lowe, now of Ashton. Interment was made in St. Paul's Cemetery. Pallbearers selected from the Masonic Fraternity were: Messrs. J. R Reid, Jack Barker, Nelson Washburn, Tom Barclay, N. S. Lee and James Barbour. The large attendance at the funeral and a profusion of floral tributes testified to the esteem in which the late Mr. Nicholson was held. Among the latter were wreaths from Mississippi Lodge; office staff of the Rosamond Woolen Company, Limited, and from the finishing room of that concern. Among those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. Henry Brown, a former superintendent of the Rosamond mill; Arthur Williamson, wife and brother Paul from Stamford, Conn.; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Powell of Ottawa and friends from Arnprior, Ashton and Carleton Place. Mr. Nicholson was a popular man in the truest sense of the term. He had many warm friends and none who will miss him more than members of the Peter's Point Fishing Club of Almonte, which has Its club house at White Lake. He had been an active member of this organization for many years and no meeting of the boys was complete without Mr. Nicholson being on hand not only to help catch the fish but to prepare, them for the table as only he could do it.
