DIZE DIED MONDAY MORNING One Of City's Prominent Citizens Buried Wednesday Mr. Edward Riley Dize, "Mr. Ned", died early Monday morning after a prolonged illness at his home on Cove street, at the age of 83. He was the son and a member of one of the pioneer families of lower Somerset county, a family that had done much in the early days to develop the area in and around Crisfield. At one time his parents owned most of the land around Cove street, Main street and Somerset avenue. His parents were the late Fieldy and Cassie Dize. Mr. Dize, up until failing health caused his retirement from the seafood business about ten years ago, was one of the pioneers in that business and for many years ran one of the city's most prosperous seafood establishments. One of the city's most familiar citizens and probably one of its best loved citizens, always willing to aid those in trouble, to pass a kind word about someone that had slipped and to give them a helping hand up, deeply interested in the affairs of his city, county, state and nation. His advice and help on all subjects was sought and followed by the wide circle of friends he enjoyed throughout his entire life. In his younger days he was an active leader of the Democrat party and enjoyed the confidence and trust of both those that sided with him and those that opposed him as he was noted for his honesty and reliability of his word, once given on any subject. He was a former member of the City Council of Crisfield, A man with a great memory, despite his many years, up until a short time before his death he was often consulted about dates and happenings in the city before the turn of the century and could give accurate information. The information he gladly gave and when giving it, would tell of many other interesting things that happened here when Crisfield was a much smaller place. Probably his most outstanding characteristic was his willingness to give of his time and world goods to help others that were in need. his charities were unknown to even his closet friends and members of his family as he gave through the goodness of a great heart. It has been said since his death that he was one man that probably has passed on to the Great Beyond without leaving an enemy or a person that disliked him. He lay at rest at the Covington Funeral Home until Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services were held at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. The service was conducted by Rev. E. L. Bennett and Rev. Dr. C. M. Elderdice. Interment was made in the family plot in Crisfield cemetery. Mr. Dize is survived by one daughter, Mrs. George Stevenson, one son, Mr. Fieldy Dize; three grandchildren, Mrs. Frank Taylor, Mr. George Edward Dize Stevenson, and Fieldy Hurley Dize; one great-grandchild, one niece and one nephew.
