Pallbearers were members of the West Irving Odd Fellow lodge, Lester Musel, Charles Upah, Edward Novak, Herbert Gettle, Lester Vilimek, and Otto Ulch. The Odd Fellow Lodge conducted graveside services at the National cemetery near Vining where he was buried. Relatives attending the services were from Cedar Rapids, Reinbeck, Clutier, Traer and Belle Plaine. Edward Valenta was born on April 20, 1898, to Frank Valenta and Josephine Jirousek near Elberon. On November 28, 1935, he married Louise Petrzalek at Belle Plaine. During his lifetime he was employed as a farmer, railroad worker and carpenter. After retirement he continued in the hobby of woodworking making items from cherry and walnut woods. He was a member of the West Irving Odd Fellow Lodge for 47 years, was also a councilman and a leader of the boy scouts. He was a fireman for 39 years. He is survived by his wife, Louise; a brother, Fred Valenta; four sisters, Estella Kahler (twin sister), Celeste Paustian, Ina Kucera and Frances Valenta. He was one of 15 children, several of whom died in infancy and early childhood. He son, Gerald, also preceded him in death. Contributor: George (48419540)
