OENBRING Edwin Cyril Oenbring, 83, of Pawnee City, NE, passed away on February 25, 2008 at the Pawnee Manor, Pawnee City, NE. He was born on September 6, 1924, at the farm home of his parents, Frank and Helen (Matthewson) Oenbring of Baileyville, KS. Edwin attended Clear Creek School in rural Baileyville, KS. He moved with the family to a farm south of Pawnee City, NE in 1939. Edwin enlisted in the Army and later re-enlisted in the Air Force, serving in Okinawa and Tokyo, Japan, as a mechanic with the 13th air repair squadron. Edwin married Shirley L. Callam on June 2, 1951, at the Pleasant Valley EUB Church, south of Pawnee City, Nebraska. To this union three sons were born, Roger, Randall and Russell. During his life he worked for Jensen Merceantile, as a lineman for Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph, as a mechanic for Callam John Deere Co., which later became Rosenthal, and Barr John Deere Co., and for Williams Chevrolet Co., all in Pawnee City. He also worked as a mechanic for John Deere Co. in Tahoka, TX and for Harms John Deere Co. in Tecumseh, NE. He later took up farming southwest of Pawnee City, where they lived for 13 years. At that time they purchased the farm south of Pawnee City that had been in the Callam family for a number of years. They moved to Pawnee City in 2001. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion, both of Pawnee City. Edwin enjoyed his work as a mechanic and farmer and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and gardening. He was preceded in death by his son Russell, his parents, step-father Claude Stallbaumer, father-in-law Reuben Callam, brothers Wilbern, Vernuss, Walter and Francis, sisters Mary Jensen and Loretta Roland. Survivors include his wife Shirley, sons Randall and Roger, two grandchildren, five great grandchildren, brothers, Robert and Cyril, sister Mildred. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Wherry Mortuary, Pawnee City, Nebraska with Rev. Duane Westing officiating. Inurnment was in the Pawnee City Cemetery, Pawnee City, Nebraska.
