Son of George James Laing and Harriet Ellen "Hattie" Clark OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, March 4, 1969 LAING- Edwin E. Laing, son of George James Laing was born Feb. 26, 1874 near Bethlehem in Wayne County and passed away in the Lucas County Memorial Hospital Feb. 24, 1969 at the age of 94 years, 11 months and 28 days. He was united in marriage to Flora Teegarden on February 19, 1896 and to this union nine sons were born. Those surviving are Lloyd of Humboldt, Otto of Algona, Marzee of Des Moines, Dean of Iowa Falls, Kermit of Chariton, Bernard of Rockwell City and T. J. of Osceola. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1958, his oldest son Paul in 1963, son Max in 1909, his parents, three brothers and three sisters. He leaves to mourn his passing his sons and their wives, 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Leta Merrick of Ft. Madison, several cousins, many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Ed, as he was best known, was a farmer most of his life in Wayne and Lucas Counties until he retired from farming in 1943 and moved to Russell to become a painter at the age of 70. He was active in this work for 14 years, moving to Chariton in 1958. He was a member of New York Christian Church in Wayne County and had been a resident of McCord Rest Haven for the past two years until he became ill on February 15. Services were conducted by the Rev. J. C. Hook, at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 1969 at the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was in the New York Cemetery.
