Description	:	Funeral service for Edwin Gottfried Heinrich, 90, of Ashley will be 11:00 am, Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley with military rights by Forbes American Legion Post 277. The Rev. Linda J. Schauer will officiate. Burial will be in Zion II Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 5 pm at the funeral home. Eddie died September 15, 2015 at Ashley Medical Center. Edwin “Eddie” Gottfried Heinrich was born to John K. and Christina (Schneider) Heinrich on March 25, 1925 in McIntosh County. He grew up on a farm in Dickey County and attended country school from 1st to 8th grade. On January 17, 1945, Eddie enlisted in the Army and did his Basic Training in Fort Hood, Texas. After Basic Training he was deployed to Luzon, Philippines. After World War II ended, he was transferred to Tokyo, Japan for 11 months. Eddie was discharged on November 26, 1946 and returned to the farm to help his parents. On April 30, 1950 Eddie was united in marriage to Annetta Fregien in the American Lutheran Church in Ashley. For three years they lived with Edwin’s parents, who then owned and operated the Coldwater Country Store east of Ashley. Eddie and Annetta lived on numerous farms in Dickey and McIntosh counties before retiring to Ashley. In their many years of small grain farming, not only did they raise five children, they also raised cattle, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, sheep, horses and milked cows. Eddie was a member of the American Legion of Forbes, board of directors of the Farmer’s Union in Ellendale, board of directors of the Coldwater Wildlife Club, and did maintenance work at the Coldwater Lake Park. Eddie is survived by his wife Annetta; two daughters, Peggy Pribula of Thompson, ND and Wanda Schlabsz of Ashley, ND; three sons, Jim Heinrich of Jamestown, ND, Larry Heinrich and Lester Heinrich both of Ashley, ND; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceding Eddie in death were his parents; brother, Marvin; grandson, Bradley Heinrich and two sisters. In Lieu of flowers please send memorials to Forbes American Legion Post 277 and Ashley VFW 10996. Carlsen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
