Edyth Bubke Schulte, the youngest daughter of Robert and Bertha Armstrong Porter, was born April 3, 1929, at Washta, Iowa. She was baptized into the Christian faith as a child. August and Agnes Christiansen of Ringsted, Iowa, took her into their home during her growing up years. She loved and respected the Christiansens very much and regarded them as her second family. TY Will have pic of headstone soon! Edyth Bubke Schulte, the youngest daughter of Robert and Bertha Armstrong Porter, was born April 3, 1929, at Washta, Iowa. She was baptized into the Christian faith as a child. August and Agnes Christiansen of Ringsted, Iowa, took her into their home during her growing up years. She loved and respected the Christiansens very much and regarded them as her second family. She graduated from Ringsted High School and married James E. Sandvig on January 7, 1946. Two children were born to this union: Connie and Mike. She married Irvin T. Bubke on June 7, 1952 who was a widower with four children, Leroy, Barbara, Tom and Donnie. Born to this union were Leon, Roger, Steven, and Timothy. Edyth made it known that there is no division in familybeing of the same blood or not, we're all one. She was a Cub Scout Leader, a member of the LWML and Sunday School teacher for many years at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Iowa. A loving and caring mother who taught her children Christian values, honesty, fortitute and strength. When Irvin Bubke died in 1977, Edyth went to school to become a nurse and graduated in 1978. During that time she met Francis Schulte who was a widower with four children, Terry, David, Diann and Maria. They were married March 17, 1979. Together they combined their children and became one, large, happy family. She lived and worked at OEA Manor in Omaha, Nebraska as Supervisor of the nursing facility. She loved to care for the elderly and gave unselfishly in her job to the people she admired and loved so much. She retired to Schleswig, Iowa in 1994. Edyth died at the Denison Care Center having attained the age of seventy-one years, three months, and thirteen days. Edyth was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, brothers Calvin and Hubert Porter, sister Hazel Adamson, brothers-in-law, Cecil Grigg, Ellis Adamson, Manley Anderson, Jerrold Halverson, sisters-in-law, Melva Porter and Vivian Porter; special niece, Pamela King and nephews Calvin (Sonny) Porter, Jr. and Tom Grigg. Survivors include children: Leroy Bubke of Harlan, Barbara Lyman and husband, Gailen of Chandler, Arizona, Tom Bubke and wife, Cathy of Schleswig, Donald Bubke and wife, Virginia of Avoca, Connie Lee and husband, Dewey of Charter Oak, Mike Bubke of Worthington, Minnesota, Leon T. Bubke and fiancee' Colleen Mencke of Denison, Roger Bubke and wife Alisa of Nemaha, Steven Bubke and wife, Terri of Omaha, Timothy Bubke and wife, Lila of Schleswig, Terry Schulte and wife, LaVonne of Westphalia, David Schulte and special friend Jo Olson of Harlan, Diann Taylor of Red Oak, and Maria Evans of Battle Creek, Michigan; her loving sisters, Ruth Grigg of Red Oak, Arlene Halverson of Ringsted, and Lucille Anderson of Alberta, Minnesota; and loving brother, L.O. Porter of Illinois; fifty-three grandchildren and fifty-one great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2000 at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Edward Murray served as celebrant of the Mass with interment at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. Jean Cornelius provided the organ accompaniment for the St. Rose of Lima Choir and vocalists, Darren and Dane Lee. Casket bearers were grandsons, Mike Hadfield, Scott Lyman, T.J. Bubke, Derek J. Lee, Joel Bubke, Jason Bubke, Troy Schulte and Corby Schulte. Honorary casket bearers were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A rosary was held at 5:00 p.m. and a family prayer service at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2000 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig. The famiy invited everyone in attendance at the service to return to the Schleswig Community Building to join them in fellowship and lunch.
