The tragedy is believed to have occurred about 9 o'clock, as the body had apparently been lifeless for two to three hours when it was discovered in the corn crib by Mrs. Younie about 11:30. Younie had not been at home for several days, but gave no indication of his intentions as he was about the house Sunday morning. Notice of a court action on a note for $900, begun against him by a Schaller bank, appeared to have caused him to be melancholy, however. The two children, William Jr. and Joan, had gone to Sunday school. Upon their return, they noticed a truck in the yard which their father had mentioned in connection with running it into the shed. The son inquired of his mother where his father had gone. She recollected that she had not seen him for some time and began a search. She was terribly shocked to find the body in the corn crib. Apparently Younie had taken a rope and had climbed upon a platform about 12 feet above the corn crib floor, used perhaps for storing of seed corn and as a shelf. He had fastened the rope to a rafter, had tied it around his neck so that his body would not reach the floor and had either rolled or jumped off the platform. Mrs. Younie called her son and he managed to get the body upon the shelf, after finding that his father was dead. A doctor from Schaller was called and Coroner Parish summoned. Neighbors were notified also but the coroner arrived before the physician and ordered the body taken down. An examination by Dr. Parish convinced him that death was due to strangulation rather than a broken neck. Mr. and Mrs. William Younie, parents of the unfortunate man and owners of the farm where he lived, were among the first to arrive. After consulting with the members of the family and the parents, Coroner Parish decided that an inquest was unnecessary. The body was turned over to Undertaker Charles Hoskins at Schaller. Mr. Younie, a few years ago fell from a windmill and was seriously injured. Last election night he drove his car into a post in front of the home of Deputy Sheriff Roy Gaffin on West Fifth street and was again hurt, although not seriously. He was well known in this vicinity and had many friends who mourn his untimely passing. Mr. Younie is survived by his wife; son, William Jr.: and daughter, Joan: his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Younie Sr., of Schaller; one brother Richard Younie, of near Schaller, and other relatives and many friends. Two brothers, Howard and Arthur Younie, died in the service during the World War. Funeral services will be held from the home this afternoon, Tuesday, at 2 o'clock and from the Presbyterian church at Schaller at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will be in the Schaller cemetery. Many from Storm Lake and the community will be in attendance at the funeral. Elbert Ernest Younie, was born November 5, 1880 at Odebolt, and was a son of William and Clara Younie. At the age of 13 he moved with his parents to the Schaller vicinity. He was married October 7th, 1908, to Miss Anna Doyen, at Waterloo. To this union two children were born.
