He was born May 23, 1922 in Holgate to the late Walter & Mabel (Hornung) Franz. On February 10, 1946, he married Betty Rohrs at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon. Eldor owned and operated Franz Marathon in Napoleon for 35 years. Many would remember Eldor as the "Gum Man" from handing out Juicy Fruit gum to all the children during his deliveries. Franz, 87, of Napoleon, OH died Friday, July 17, 2009 at Golden Living Center - Northcrest in Napoleon. He was born May 23, 1922 in Holgate to the late Walter & Mabel (Hornung) Franz. On February 10, 1946, he married Betty Rohrs at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon. Eldor owned and operated Franz Marathon in Napoleon for 35 years. Many would remember Eldor as the "Gum Man" from handing out Juicy Fruit gum to all the children during his deliveries. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, volunteer fireman for the Napoleon Fire department, member of the Luther R. Kolbe VFW Post 8218 and Bert G. Taylor American Legion Post 300 of Napoleon. He served the US Air force as a Corporal during W.W.II. He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, William (Laurie) Franz of Dayton, OH, John (Sabine) Franz of Milwaukee, WI, and Thomas (Jan) Franz of Wauseon, OH; 6 granddaughters; 3 great grandchildren, and a sister, Marjorie (Paul) Neuhauser of Napoleon, OH. Funeral services will held on Monday at 11am at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Napoleon Joint Veteran Posts. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Rodenberger Funeral Home in Napoleon and 1hr prior the service at the church on Monday. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church or a charity of the donors choice.
