O. Hedger, who lived two miles south of Carbon, were greatly shocked to learn that she had committed suicide at Creston, Sunday evening. She had been taken to the Cottage Hospital in that city for treatment on the day preious and her husband, who accompanied her, returned home Sunday afternoon. From the Creston papgers we learn that about 5 o'clock Sunday evening the attending physician called on her and she appeared rational. About 6:30 she asked permission of the attendents to go to the bathroom and the request was granted. She remained longer than was customary and when an investigation was made the dead body of Mrs. Hedger was found hanging with a towel around her throat. She had made fast the towel to a bracket above the bath tub, which was sufficient to hold her weight. She had slept well the previous night and appeared so rational in the morning, that her husband thought it safe to leave her. Mrs. Hedger had been in the bathroom several times since her stay at the hospital. On this last occasion, she locked the door. The nurses heard her moving about in the room. When she did not appear after a proper time had passed the nurses went to the window thinking she might have left the building, but the window not been raised. Entrance to the room was secured by this means and the lifeless body of Mrs. Hedger was found hanging from the bracket as stated. The body was taken down by two male inmated of the hospital, who untied the towel. Artificial respiration was resorted to, as the body was yet warm and physicians were summoned, but the woman was beyond human power. Death had resulted from choking. since the death of Mr. and Mrs. Hedger's daughter Florence in December last, Mrs. Hedger had been greatly worried. She grieved over the child constantly and was oppressed by the fear that the child had gone to eternal punishment, for which she held herself responsible. Her grief affected her mind and it became necessary to do something for her. Being reluctant to take her to an asylum and hopeful that medical treatment would restore her to health, her relatives decided to take her to the hospital in Creston. Her death is a terrible affliction to her husband and other relatives and they have abundant sympathy in their deep sorrow. The body was brought to Corning Monday morning and the funeral services were held at the U. B. Church, Rev. T. B. Cannon conducting them. The remains were taken to West Side, Iowa, for interment that having been the home of the deceased for many years. Mrs. Hedger was forty-five years of age and was a most excellent woman.
