She died on December 23, 1898 in Adams County, Iowa and is buried in the West Side Cemetery in Crawford County, Iowa On Friday, December 23, 1898 at the home of her parents, near Carbon, Iowa, Florence Melvina Hedger, aged 11 years, 3 months, and 10 days old. Florence was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Hedger, of Douglas Township. Her death was caused by inflammation of the bowels. The funeral services were conducted from the Otterbein, U. B. Church, conducted by Rev. T. B. Cannon, of Corning. To have known this little one was to love her. She has gone to live with the angels. The attendance at the funeral was very large. Six little schoolmates of the deceased acted as pall bearers and accompanied the remains to Corning, from where they were taken to Westside, Iowa and laid to rest by the side of her little brother, who preceded her to the better land six years before. Florence will be missed by many friends. Adams County Free Press, December 29, 1898, page 4 Denison Review 12-27-1898 - West Side A telegram was received from E. O. Hedger Saturday stating that they would be here Monday with their daughter for burial. We learned since that it was little Florence. She was a very bright child and the whole community mourn with the sorrowing parents and relatives. There will be brief services at the M. E. church after which little Florence will be laid to rest beside the other children in the cemetery north of town. Florence M. Hedger, who passed to her eternal home, December 23, 1899.
