Peters - age 87, of Pocahontas, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014, at the Pocahontas Manor Care Center in Pocahontas, Iowa. Eleanor Elaine Meeske was born August 16, 1926, near Helvey, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Alfred and Lydia (Hohensee) Meeske. She was baptized on August 29th, 1926, at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Daykin, NE. In 1939, she moved with her family to Pocahontas, Iowa. She graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1944. On February 11, 1945, Eleanor was united in marriage to Ervin Peters at St. John's Lutheran Church near Palmer, Iowa. The couple was blessed with three daughters: Judy, Jean and Donna. Sharing with Ervin the farm chores and driving tractors, she also decorated wedding cakes for over 10 years. Eleanor and Ervin lived on the family farm until moving into Pocahontas in 1985. Eleanor was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church. She spent many hours gardening and loved flowers, especially roses. Eleanor was grandmother to nine grandchildren, Kellie, Kristie, Kori; Melissa, Doug, Dwight; Heather, Heidi, Holly; and a great-grandmother to 19 great-grandchildren. All of her children and grandchildren were recipients of her handmade quilts. She enjoyed her family very much and was always happy whenever any of them stopped by for a visit. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 69 years, Ervin; three daughters, Judy (Tom) Flaherty of Pocahontas; Jean (Dean) Dodd of Hampton and Donna (Keith) Eberle of Laurens; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Verneeda Bohlmeyer of Fairbury, NE and Maxine Julius of Ames and many nieces & nephews. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lawrence Meeske and sisters, Verda Dauphin and Velma Pimper.
