Description	:	Eleanor H. Rammel, 97, New Town, was born March 31, 1917 to Fred and Sophie (Stolz) Aisenbrey, on their family homestead south of Van Hook near Muskrat Lake. Eleanor was raised on the homestead, attended country school at the Howie Township School and graduated from Van Hook High School in 1936. Eleanor was united in marriage to Richard V. Rammel on January 8, 1940 in Van Hook, ND. Rammel, 97, New Town, was born March 31, 1917 to Fred and Sophie (Stolz) Aisenbrey, on their family homestead south of Van Hook near Muskrat Lake. Eleanor was raised on the homestead, attended country school at the Howie Township School and graduated from Van Hook High School in 1936. Eleanor was united in marriage to Richard V. Rammel on January 8, 1940 in Van Hook, ND. They lived in Phillipsburg, Montana for a short time while Richard was in the Civilian Conservation Corp, then moved back to the Aisenbrey homestead to farm and ranch. Eleanor kept busy raising their three daughters and helping out on the farm. Eleanor helped run machinery, baled hay, milked cows, candled eggs, tended her large vegetable garden, and was always busy in the kitchen cooking, canning, and making her famous baked goodies. Richard passed away on March 24, 1991. In the fall of 1991, Eleanor moved off the farm and into an apartment in New Town, where she remained very active and independent, participating in the Lakeside Senior Citizen Center. In 2009, Eleanor moved to the Lakeside Community Living Center in New Town where she enjoyed the camaraderie of friends and activities at the Center; as well as, helping each day in the kitchen with the meal preparations to keep herself busy and to just help out. In 2013, Eleanor moved to the Garrison Memorial Hospital Nursing Home where she passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2014. Eleanor was an excellent cook, known for many dishes, none more so than her famous chicken dinner. Eleanor and Richard raised large vegetable gardens and Eleanor canned many items; her family’s favorite was her homemade tomato juice. Eleanor also loved to bake, and no one can replicate her legendary pies or donuts. Any visitors who came to the farm, or her apartment, were always treated with a home-cooked meal and baked goods. In her spare time, Eleanor liked to knit afghans, do embroidery work and mend and sew for her family. She also liked word-search puzzles and to play her favorite board game “Aggravation”. At the age of 80, she took up paint-by-number painting and produced many quality works of art for family and friends. One thing Eleanor had throughout her life was a good sense of humor and an unequaled, clever wit to match. Eleanor was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in New Town. She cherished spending time with her family and her friends. In Eleanor’s words, “It was a good life!” May God bless the memory of Eleanor Helen Rammel. Eleanor is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Ardelle and Jim Hanson of Boise, Idaho; Susan and Ron Brothen of Columbus, North Dakota; and Kim and Ronnie Eagle of New Town, North Dakota; her grandchildren, Ron Hanson (Karen) and Brenda Staggs (Robert); Jason Brothen (Robin), Aaron Brothen, and Travis Brothen; Ryan Eagle and Jared Eagle (Candice); her great-grandchildren, Bo Hanson; Jaime and Paige Staggs; and Hattie and Parker Brothen; her brother, Milton Aisenbrey of Bismarck, as well as several nieces and nephews. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, LaVina Cavanaugh; and brother, Raymond Aisenbrey. Funeral: Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church, New Town. Visitation: Wednesday, October 1, 2014 from noon to 5:00 pm at Langhans Funeral Home, Parshall.
