Description	:	Eleanor Vorba was born February 21, 1901, on a farm near Anthon, Iowa. She was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Kvidera) Vorba. She was a small child when her parents returned to Tama County after a ten year stay in Woodbury County. They lived on a farm in Grant Township where Eleanor attended a rural school and then went to school in Traer after the family moved in 1919. Read More	Eleanor Vorba was born February 21, 1901, on a farm near Anthon, Iowa. She was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Kvidera) Vorba. She was a small child when her parents returned to Tama County after a ten year stay in Woodbury County. They lived on a farm in Grant Township where Eleanor attended a rural school and then went to school in Traer after the family moved in 1919. She also attended a school of business and worked several years in Traer business places, including Farmer's Lumber Company and Farmer's store. After a few years in Cedar Rapids and Waterloo stores, she was promoted by the Three Sisters Company, a woman's apparel shop, to the home office in Saginaw, Michigan and later in Grand Rapids. In 1948, she moved to California where she was employed in a Pasadena hotel, and then in the offices of the Athendeum, a student residence hall on the campus of the California Institute of Technology, in Pasadena. She had been severely afflicted by arthritis and planned to move to Tucson, Arizona in hope of some benefit, when she was stricken July 17, 1956, by a cerebral hemorrhage and died three days later in Huntington Memorial Hospital. A niece and two nephews living near Pasadena were with her during her last illness. Her body was returned to Iowa and she is buried in St. Vaclav cemetery near her parents. by Lillian Vorba
