Why go through all the work of creating memorials if findagrave is going to just give them away? *Update April 26, 2018 We had listed Elias' date of birth as October 13, 1799 and yet in a write-up on his wife Naomi (Wilson) Beaver, she stated that Elias was born on October 30, 1799 so I am changing it from Oct 13th to the 30th. Also, since I first added info to his memorial, we have done more research on Elias and his family so I can add more info. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Elias Beaver was born on October 30, 1799 in Virginia and died on August 31, 1865 in Knoxville, Marion County, Iowa. His parents were Michael Beaver (1760-1822) and Mary Molly MAUCK (1773-1827). On Ancestry.com, it indicates that Elias died on 31 Aug 1865 and that his birth date was 1801, however, as indicated above, his wife Naomi indicated Elias was born on October 30, 1799 so we are going with that date. His headstone confirms his date of death as did Naomi in the write-up on her. One source is the Iowa Cemetery Records, page #5, Cemetery - Breckenridge in the town of Knoxville and Cemetery Records of Marion County, Iowa. On February 13, 1823 in Ross County, Ohio, Elias married Millie TIMMONS (1803-1838) and they had six children: Mirinda (1823-1896), Simeon (1926-1865), Henry Mauck (1830-1902), Minerva (1832-1833), Elias Jr. (1834- ) and Lewis (1837- ) In 1830, the Elias Beaver family was living in Scioto, Ross County, Ohio (per the 1830 census). After Millie's death, Elias married 2nd to Naomi WILSON on July 25, 1839 in Fulton County, Illinois. Note that I initially had their marriage location as Durham, Iowa, but in the write-up on Naomi, she stated she was living in Fulton County, Illinois - first with her parents and then with her husband, Elias. She also stated the date of their marriage and indicated that she and Elias moved to Iowa in 1852. Their marriage info also found in the Illinois, Marriage Index, 1860-1920. Naomi was the daughter of John Sears Wilson (1783-1869) and Nancy LINN (1785-1848). She was born on September 5, 1811 in Knox County, Kentucky and died on January 27, 1886 in Marion County, Iowa. Naomi's mother, Nancy LINN Wilson, was a sister to my g-g-g grandfather, William Linn. Nancy and William's parents were Patrick Linn and Mary [maiden name unknown]. Patrick immigrated to the American colonies c1772 and joined the American Revolutionary War on July 6, 1776 and served for four years. Elias and Naomi had seven children: James A. (1840-1863), Samuel Lee (1842-1901), Nancy Jane (1844-1846), Sophronia (1847- ), Franklin C. (1849-1904), Sarah E. (1854-1896) and Joseph W. (1855-1914). In 1840, Elias and his family are found on the June 1, 1840 census for Fulton County, Illinois and in 1850 living in Joshua Township in Fulton County. Naomi indicated in the write-up on her that she and Elias and the children moved to Iowa in 1852. On April 7, 1853, Elias and Naomi were living in Harvey, Clay Township, Marion County, Iowa. We know this from an amazing journal that Henry Allyn kept when he went with his married daughter, Elizabeth 'Betsy' ALLYN Griffin Wilson, on the Oregon Trail from Illinois to Oregon in 1853. Elizabeth had married James Lynn Wilson; James was a brother of Naomi WILSON Beaver. In his journal, Henry Allyn kept a daily diary of their trip starting on March 28, 1853 from Fulton County, Illinois to when they reached the Valley of Williamette in Oregon, which they reached on September 6, 1853. On April 7, 1853, Henry wrote their location and the number of miles they had traveled and indicated, "crossed ferry at Belle Fountain, 7 miles to Elias Beaver's". They stopped and visited with the Beaver's before continuing their trip, but this little snippet gave us additional info on where Elias and Naomi were living. They were still living in Clay, Marion County, Iowa in 1856 based on the Iowa, State Census Collection, 1836-1925, and continued living there in 1860 per that years' census. In May of 1865, Elias is simply listed as owning property in Iowa (no county noted although under 'location' it indicates English - that more than likely refers to English Settlement as found on various records for Elias) as found on the U.S. IRS Tax Assessment Lists, 1862-1918. Elias was being taxed for income of $367 at a rate of .5 percent and paid $18.35 in taxes. On August 30, 1865, Elias wrote his will. He named his wife Naomi and another man as his executors and left his estate to Naomi with the exception that some of the money was to be distributed to his children along with horses and saddles to his sons. Elias died on August 31, 1865 in Knoxville, Marion County, Iowa. HEADSTONE INSCRIPTION: "Dearest partner thou hast left me, here thy loss I deeply feel, but tis God that hath bereft me, he can all our sorrows heal" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I see that there are other Beaver family members buried in this cemetery and I would guess that they are related to Elias - possibly his children or grandchildren - will have to research further. Again, please note that initially, most of Elias' information was given to me by a descendant of his wife's father's family (Wilson), but since then, I have done research on him to add to this memorial and my family tree on Ancestry.
