Read More	Husband of Elizabeth Cole. Son of Stephen Hickle and Mary Ann Drake OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD Chariton, Iowa Thursday, October 21, 1897 ELISHA D. HICKLE Elisha D. Hickle was born in Noble Co., Ohio December 31, 1841. He grew to manhood on his father's farm near Sarahsville. When the war broke out he enlisted in Co. G, 78th Ohio Volunteers. After the war he emigrated to northern Missouri where he lived for 12 year, working on a stock farm. Coming to Iowa in 1876, he worked at painting and farming. On September 12, 1878, he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Cole. Five children, four living viz: Alonzo, Ethel, Pearl and John, survive him. Charles died in infancy during their residence at Corydon. In February of 1897 he removed with his family from Benton township to J. M. Lang's farm in Ottercreek township. During the winter of 1897 Mr. Hickle was attacked by la grippe, after which he failed in health gradually, leaving him an easy prey to typhoid fever. In his sickness he was patient and kind. In boyhood days he united with the Lutheran church, living a sincere Christian life. After coming to Iowa he united with the Evangelical church of Mt. Carmel, of which he was a faithful member until his summons came September 10, 1897. We miss him as a neighbor and faithful friend but we trust he is in the arms of the Savior.
