Nehemiah was 69 years old and already the father of 13 children ranging in age from 44 to age 3. Eliza was 22, half the age of Nehemiah's oldest son James. Eliza & Nehemiah were married 23 years and had 6 children before Nehemiah died in Nov 1884. Eliza was 22, half the age of Nehemiah's oldest son James. Eliza & Nehemiah were married 23 years and had 6 children before Nehemiah died in Nov 1884. Those six children are: Elizabeth (Betsey), Delilah Jane, Ransom I, Henry Leander, Oscar A and David Alva Ames. Ransom I and Henry Leander, twin sons, died in infancy and are buried in Lost Creek Cemetery. Eliza was buried beside them. The other 4 children lived into adulthood. On 17 Jan 1900, Eliza (Roan) Ames, age 60, married a widower, Ira A Carlisle in Defiance Co., OH. There were no children from this union and Ira died before the 1910 Census, where Eliza is registered as living with her daughter and son-in-law, Betsey & David Byers in Farmer, Defiance Co., OH. ****note: The birthdate on Eliza's tombstone looks like 1833, but upon closer inspection, it is probably 1839. Information from her 1900 marriage license to Ira Carlisle says she is 60, all the census records list her birthdate as about 1939 and the Lost Creek Cemetery, Farmer Twp, records book lists her birth date as 13 Mar 1839.
