On August 23, 1857, she was united in marriage with James Harrison Thompson, her now sorrowing husband. To this union were born eight children, seven of whom survive as follows: Mrs. Kate Helena Downey, Joseph E. Thompson, Mrs. Marilla A. Brown, William M. Thompson, James H. Thompson, Charles E. Thompson and Mrs. Lottie O. Adams. Emma J. preceded the mother to the Heavenly realm in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson lived in Hancock County, Illinois until 1881 when they came to Pilot Grove Township, which has been their home ever since. Grandma Thompson has been failing in health for several years, about a week ago she took to her bed. Everything that medical skill could do was done for her, a trained nurse waited upon her, kind and loving friends did all in their power to prolong life, but the spirit took its flight. She now rests from her labors and her works do follow her. When quite young she was converted and was brought up a Baptist. In 1898 she with her husband united with the M. E. church in Pilot Grove. She was the last in the family to be called home, what a reunion in Heaven. She was a humble follower of Christ; she loved her Bible and was of a quiet disposition. Before she departed she said, "I have no fears when the Angels come down from Heaven for me." Her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband also praiseth her. An aged husband, seven children, twenty grandchildren and four great grandchildren with a host of friends and acquaintances deeply mourn their loss. The funeral services of the late Mrs. Thompson were held in the Pilot Grove M. E. church last Thursday morning at 11 o'clock conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. H. Freedline who took for his text these words, "The Heavenly Mansions." The house was crowded with friends and neighbors who came to show their respects for the departed and to extend their sympathy to the living. As per request of the deceased that nothing but white should be used at her funeral, the casket, decorations and dress were all white, while the grave was lined with white cotton batting. The decorations at the church were all white and were beautifully arranged. The floral offerings from the children and friends were simply beyond comparison. The singing by a quartette consisting of Mr. and Mrs. I. T. Askey, John Biddick and Mrs. Alfred Adams, Jr. was very touching and beautiful.
