Description	:	Eliza Jane Hodson, the widow of the late George Hodson, passed away at her home northwest of Salem, Iowa, on Friday, January 20, 1950, at the age of 77 years, 5 months, and 15 days. Read More	Eliza Jane Hodson, the widow of the late George Hodson, passed away at her home northwest of Salem, Iowa, on Friday, January 20, 1950, at the age of 77 years, 5 months, and 15 days. She had been in poor health for some time taking worse only a few days before her death. Eliza Jane Mitchell, the daughter of James L. and Louisa L. (Lewman) Mitchell, was born August 5, 1872, on her father’s farm in Dakota County, Nebraska. She was the fifth child in a family of ten children, five of whom preceded her in death. She received her education from the district schools. In the year 1875 she moved with the family by covered wagon to Washington County, Colorado. On the account of the drought the family moved to Richland, Iowa, the same year, where her father and mother were reared and married. In the year of 1896 she was united in marriage to George Hodson and they made their home on the Hodson homestead northwest of Salem where Mr. Hodson was born and spent his entire life. Since his death on January 30, 1941, Mrs. Hodson continued to live on the home place. To this union was born one son, George Dewey Hodson, who took over the farm and kept the home for his mother with tender care until her last days. Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Hodson joined the Cedar Creek Friends Church and were active in the church as long as they were able. Those left to mourn her death in addition to her son George Dewey are one brother, William C. Mitchell of South Sioux City, Nebraska; three sisters, Mrs. Maud Humphrey of Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Tattie Hallowell of Mt. Pleasant, and Mrs. Mattie Reynolds of Walford, Iowa, and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Elizabeth McPherrran, John Mitchell, Arabell Mitchell, and Leslie Mitchell. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 22, 1950, at the Cedar Creek Friends Church. Bessie F. Collins officiated taking as her text Job 19:25 “For I know that my redeemer liveth and that he shall stand at the latter days upon the earth.” She was assisted by Esther O. Figgins, pastor the Cedar Creek Church. The songs “Rock of Ages” and “Does Jesus Live” were tendered by a quartet of Mrs. Bert Jay, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Brown, and Clayton Mills, accompanied by Mrs. Herman Hallowell. Pallbearers were John C. Savage, Herman Hallowell, Ollie Kruse, Harry Cooper, Ross Maxwell, and J.L. Mills. Interment was in the Cedar Creek Friends Cemetery. -- From the Mt.
