Description	:	Eliza Wilhemina Christina Wahe and Alfred Levi Parrott were married on October 19, 1915. They were called Tena and Levi all their adult lives. They first lived for one year on Tena’s Mother’s farm 6 ½ southwest of Adair. Tena’s widowed mother had moved to Adair that fall. They then moved to a farm east of Canby. Read More	Eliza Wilhemina Christina Wahe and Alfred Levi Parrott were married on October 19, 1915. They were called Tena and Levi all their adult lives. They first lived for one year on Tena’s Mother’s farm 6 ½ southwest of Adair. Tena’s widowed mother had moved to Adair that fall. They then moved to a farm east of Canby. Later they lived on farms called by their owner’s name. They were the Bell place, north of Massena in Cass County. Herbert and Wayne started school here. They also lived on the Sullivan and Swanke places in Cass County. Melvin started to school here. They then lived on the Raasch place in Adair County. Norman and Harold both started to school here. They then moved to the Lednum place in Adair County and then to the Glade place in Adair County. From the Glade place they moved to the Park’s farm that they purchased in 1947. It was 110 acres, and it was the first time they had electricity. About 1951 they purchased their first refrigerator. After Melvin left for service in World War II they purchased their first tractor. Farming was very hard work. They milked the average number of cow for farmers at that time, raised their own hogs and chickens. They also had a big garden and Tena did much canning. Having their own meat, chickens, eggs, milk and cream and cannned goods, as well as home churned butter and home made bread meant the farmers did not have the large grocery bills that people have today. Money was not as plentiful and they worked hard and planned ahead for winter months. Deaths of loved ones were felt very deeply and births were looked forward to. When Christina was expecting her fifth child, someone wondered if she wanted a girl. Her reply was “How could a girl survive with 4 brothers? I think it better be a boys.” When the stork arrived on Aug. 18, 1928 he brought a bundle to be named Harold. In 1959 they sold the farm and purchased the Anthony property in the town of Bridgewater, Iowa. Levi passed away in 1961 and Christina continued to live there. She still raised a garden there. In December 1986 she moved to the Greenfield Manor for her permanent home. Life was not easy for farmers in those days. Renters always had to plant what the landlords wanted and half of the crops were given for rent. Tena and Levi had the first running water in their home and a bathroom when they moved to their home in Bridgewater,. Information found by Evelyn L.
