Description	:	Minnie Wahe and Leander “Dick” Kinney were married on February 14, 1912 at the Methodist parsonage in Greenfield, Iowa. The snow drifts were so high that day that they traveled over fences in a bobsled pulled by a team of horses. Their first home was on the Barney McDonald farm west of Canby. The snow drifts were so high that day that they traveled over fences in a bobsled pulled by a team of horses. Their first home was on the Barney McDonald farm west of Canby. Later they moved to the Martin Tracy farm in Eureka township. Arlene was born there on May 6, 1914. About 1916 they moved to a larger farm in Jackson township. This farm was owned by the Bangs family. The farm had a creek running through it and when heavy rains came it flooded badly. The livestock had to be put in lots near the barn until the water went down. Edith was born there on July 13, 1917. In 1912 they purchased an 80 acre farm in Grove township. Richard was born there on January 11, 1928. Minnie and Dick had a large herd of Jersey cows and sold their cream to the Greenfield creamery. They had improved the barn for dairy farming. Then the severe drought of the ‘30’s came along with the Depression. During the drought they bought hay from northern Iowa. The quality was poor and the prices high. They decided to leave this farm and purchase one for less money. In 1936 they moved to Harrison township where they made their home for the rest of their lives. Dick passed away in 1957 and Minnie stayed on in her home on the farm. She raised chickens, a large garden and flowers. She lived on this farm for 46 years until her health failed and she went to a nursing home in Greenfield for 18 months. She passed away in 1983. Information located by Evelyn L.
