Description	:	Founder of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Mooresville. Eliza Worthington was born in Georgetown, Pennsylvania. She was living in Madison, Indiana when she met Samuel Moore. They married on April 15, 1828 in Morgan County. Shortly after, she began her efforts to form the Methodist Episcopal Church. Some credit the founding to her husband, but it was in fact Eliza who founded the church. She was living in Madison, Indiana when she met Samuel Moore. They married on April 15, 1828 in Morgan County. Shortly after, she began her efforts to form the Methodist Episcopal Church. Some credit the founding to her husband, but it was in fact Eliza who founded the church. In 1828, she was the only member, but soon convinced Eli Tansey, Jesse Rooker, Joseph Hunt, William Cline and their wives to join. In 1837 there was a revival. During and after the revival, membership grew substantially. By 1839 the following men and their wives had joined: Samuel Black, William Black, William Blair, Harris Bray, William Carlisle, Gabriel Coble, Daniel Cox, Joseph Cox, Daniel Day, John Hardwick, William Herrold, Joseph Hiatt, Johnathan Hunt, James Kelly, Daniel May, William McClelland, Jacob Pfoff, J.W. Richards, David Shanafelt, Jacob Shanafelt, Samuel Stevenson, J.W. Thompson, Isaac Williams and Alexander Worth. Samuel Moore, originally a Quaker, had yet to convert and join his wife's church, but would shortly. Although the original church building is no longer standing, the church that Eliza Moore began in 1828 is still in existence in 2007. It's now the Mooresville First United Methodist Church and is at its third location. She had 5 children, 4 of whom are buried in this cemetery. Elizabeth Moore died as a small child, two months shy of age 5. Jane Newby died at age 23. Mary M. Conduitt died at age 21. Her only son, Joseph, died in infancy at 11 months and 8 days. Her daughter, Margaret Fogleman, is buried in Mooresville Cemetery.
