Verne R Brodersen 1993/Died 2004) Chas Phillip [1923 SD-1945 WA] Obituary - Mrs E C Shroyer Dies Monday; Rites Tentative Mrs. Elwood C Shroyer, 909 Fourth St. N.E., died Monday evening at St John's Hospital at the age of 82. The funeral service is tentatively set for Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Welter Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon or evening. The family prefers memorials. Elizabeth Peck was born Feb 2, 1885, in Hinton, Iowa, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas Peck. She moved with her family to Burwell, Neb, where they homesteaded. She married Wesley Bartos in 1903. He preceded her in death. In 1916, she moved to Huron and was married to Joseph Gainor in 1918. Following his death in 1952 she married Elwood Shroyer, Dec 10, 1953. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, Gold Star Mothers and American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Elwood; one son, Joseph Bartos, Burwell, Neb; four daughters, Katie Scofield, Ord, Neb; Bernice, Mrs Clarence Mentzer, Franklin, Neb; Myrtle, Mrs Milford Naprstek, Lexington, Neb; and Euphemia, Mrs Leo R Johnston, Huron; 37 grandchildren; and 33 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one son, Charles Philip Gainor in 1945 and one daughter, Mrs Milton Ferguson. Her last child with Bartos: Elizabeth separated from Wesley Bartos, gave up a baby girl born in Hayti South Dakota born on December 30, 1917. She gave the baby up because she had been separated from her husband since November 1916. She named that baby Mary Elizabeth Bartos. She listed the name of the father as "Wesley Bartos". The baby was placed in The South Dakota Children's Home. Three months later, by the end of March 1918, Baby Mary had been adopted by "John Andreas Brandt and his wife Caroline Kjenstad". They renamed the baby "Evelyn Margarethe Brandt - 30 Dec 1917 - Sep 1979 (died Brown County, South Dakota) Memorial 108017987". The 1938 Huron City directory had her listed as "A Elizabeth" Gainor, with the naming of her daughter Agnes Euphemia and following naming traditions, it appears that her given name may have actually Agnes Elizabeth.
