She was the eldest child of the Rev. James B. Burch and Sarah H. Walden. Mrs. Schneider's brother, Lewis M. Burch helped build the cabin for one of Oelwein's most remembered ladies. Born June 12, 1824 in Indiana, Elizabeth Burch became the widow of Enoch Shelton. The couple had four children.
