On Thursday evening of last week Mrs. Elizabeth Byerly, wife of Peter Byerly, died at their home east of town, aged sixty-four years, one month and five days. On Thursday evening of last week Mrs. Elizabeth Byerly, wife of Peter Byerly, died at their home east of town, aged sixty-four years, one month and five days. Mrs. Byerly was the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Harlan and was born in Vermillion Township within a mile of the place of her death. She was married to Peter Byerly November 10, 1853. This union, which was ever an extremely happy one was blessed with two children, Franklin, who yet remains at home to comfort and support his father in his declining years, and Minta, who is married to M. D. Gongwer and resides with her husband in Vermillion Township. Deceased has been a devout and faithful member of the Methodist and Baptist churches for forty-four years, carrying her religion with her into everyday life; as a neighbor and friend she was esteemed and respected by all who knew her. Her health had not been as good as usual for a year or more but no one thought the end would come so soon. On Friday, October 6, she became suddenly very ill and on the following Thursday she yielded her spirit to Him who gave it. The funeral service was held at the residence of the deceased on last Sabbath, conducted by her pastor, Rev. S. A. Sherman, of the Vermillion Baptist Church, who chose for his text Rev. xiv: 13. Interment took place at the cemetery at Hayesville where, just four weeks ago, she had followed the remains of her only grandchild, Frankie Gongwer, to their last resting place.
