MISC: In 1870 the U.S. Government made a treaty with the Pawnee Indians in Western Nebraska and opened up that territory for white settlers. In the same year, 1870, Elizabeth Clabaugh Fisher moved to Furnas County, Nebraska and settled around the town of what is now Edison, Nebraska. Furnas County was established in 1873 from unorganized territory. Elizabeth took her children with her. In 1873 she petitioned the court at Hamilton County, Iowa to sell the land which was the share of her 3 minor children's estate left by their father Charles Fisher. The court okayed the petition. There was quite a lot of land involved and Henry Fisher & Charles Fisher Jr. handled the transaction. Hezakiah Fisher bought some land for $60.00. At any rate Elizabeth got ripped off on the deal and sold the land for a fraction of it's worth. When Elizabeth moved to Nebraska Milton Fisher and his family went with her and the party traveled by covered wagon. Because Elizabeth suffered from arthritis they took a folding rocking chair with them for her comfort. Agnes Fisher attened the Fisher family reunion in Iowa in 1981. Agnes was 73 years old at the time. She said, at that time, she owned that rocking chair and also a clock that belonged to Elizabeth. Agnes was married to two Fisher brothers, sons of Benjamin Fisher & Margaret Wells. Benjamin & Margaret had eleven children.
