Description	:	At 1:00 o’clock this morning [August 17, 1896], at her residence, 326 Sixth Street, Fort Madison, the earthly trials of Mrs. Elizabeth Smith came to an end, and her spirit took its flight to the better world beyond. Mrs. Smith was one of earth’s best women; one whose friends were countless, and her death will cause a pang of sorrow in the hearts of many. Mrs. Smith was one of earth’s best women; one whose friends were countless, and her death will cause a pang of sorrow in the hearts of many. Mrs. Smith was born December 20, 1814, at Raunds, Northamptonshire, England, and was therefore 81 years, 7 months, and 21 days old. On February 23, 1837, she was married to Anthony Smith. They came to America in 1847 coming directly to Fort Madison, and she has lived here ever since. Her husband died October 6 [4], 1859. Mrs. Smith is survived by five sons, namely: George H., Edwin D., Charles A., Albert R., and Frank R. All of them are residents of this city, except Charles, who lives at Los Angeles, California. Three children, Frederick, William D., and Georgiana are dead. The funeral services will be held at Hope Church Tuesday, August 18, at 2:30 p.m., the Rev. J.H.
