JOHNSTON - Eliza, daughter of John and Eliza MacKuver [McKeever] Hall, was born near Clones, Fermanagh, Ireland, on October 31, 1860, and departed this life at her home in Montezuma on December 24, 1944, at the age of 84 years, 1 month, and 24 days. JOHNSTON - Eliza, daughter of John and Eliza MacKuver [McKeever] Hall, was born near Clones, Fermanagh, Ireland, on October 31, 1860, and departed this life at her home in Montezuma on December 24, 1944, at the age of 84 years, 1 month, and 24 days. While a tiny baby she came to America with her parents and two older sisters and the family settled in Bowling Township, Rock Island, Ill. Several years later the family moved to Poweshiek County, settling on a farm seven miles northeast of Montezuma. Here, together with her four sisters and one brother they grew to man and womanhood. Her sisters Mary Jane Kane, Margaret Johnston, Susan Robson, and brother, Samuel Hall, are now deceased. The only surviving member of the family is Rachel Thompson of Grinnell. On March 28, 1884, she was united in marriage to John W. Johnston. They located on a farm four miles east of Montezuma. Five children were born to this union, Joseph, Elizabeth, John, Samuel and Francis. Joseph and Samuel, now deceased. She also cared for her nephew, William Hall, for eight years after her mother's death. In 1920 Mr. and Mrs. Johnston moved to Montezuma where they lived in the present home. Mr. Johnston passed away January 6, 1941, and since that time Mrs. Johnston has remained alone, until the past two years, when she has been devotedly cared for by her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Fitzsimmons. She was baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal Church and later attended the Presbyterian Churches of Fairview and Montezuma. Grandma, or Aunt Eliza, as she was known to so many, is survived by her three children, John, Elizabeth, and Francis; nine grandchildren, Iola Tarvin, Warren and Harry McCaw, Eunice Mason, Ruth Brooks, Francine Johnston, Janet Johnston, Jeane Freman, and John D. Johnston, and four great grandchildren, Billy and Bobby Tarvin, Joyce Marie and Gerald McCaw, also nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Out-of-Town-Attendants Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Hall of Des Moines, Mrs. W.J. Hutchinson of Milan, Ill., Mrs. Joshua Johnston and Lewis of Brooklyn, Mrs. Nina Kirk of Oskaloosa, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Weaver and Viola of Ladora, and Mr. and Mrs. F.A.
