Schelkopf and Elma Beeson Schelkopf on June 21, 1893, near Shickley, Fillmore county and passed away on July 2, 1981, at Heritage of Geneva at the age of 88 years. She was one of seven children. She was baptized in and was a member of the United Brethren church at Martland in her youth. She attended school at District 93, and graduated from Shickley public high school. She graduated from Peru State Teacher’s College and also attended the University of Nebraska. She was a successful teacher many years and held the office of County Superintendent of Public Instruction for 12 years. She was active and interested in all community affairs, church work, member of the Rebecca Lodge, Eastern Star and the Methodist church of Geneva. She was married to Henry W. Drake of Geneva on October 18, 1933. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Edgar, Martin and Isaac; three sisters, Lillian Kimbrough, Jessie Lambert, and Helen Hedden. She is survived by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Lena Schelkopf, and many nieces and nephews and many friends. Due to her failing health in recent years, she had made her home at the Heritage Home in Geneva where she had excellent care until her death. She was an ardent Christian woman, always happy in the service of others. Her everyday life was an inspiration to all who knew her. Funeral services were held at the Farmer mortuary in Geneva, at 10 a.m., July 6, 1981, with Rev. Jay Funk officiating, using the 23rd Psalm. “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” was the music selection. Pallbearers were Richard Girmus, Don Kimbrough Jr., Gary Kimbrough, Dennis Kimbrough, Joe and Stan Schelkopf. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 9 July 1981 page 5.
