Betty passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen. Elizabeth Jane Loop was born Aug. 26, 1925, to Orvill and Mary (Becker) Loop in Grand Island, Neb. She graduated from high school in Grand Island and then attended Mount Marty College in Yankton, S.D. She came to Aberdeen to visit her friends and met Ignatius F. Hartung, whom she later married on May 6, 1947, in Grand Island, Neb. They made their home in Aberdeen, where they raised their family. Betty was an accomplished marksman, hunting antelope and deer. She was an avid cribbage player and enjoyed playing bridge. She enjoyed crocheting, baking and music, but most of all, she loved walking hand-in-hand with her husband. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Altar Society, Band #11, a Eucharist Minister, sang in the choir for over 25 years and was a member of the Catholic Daughters Of The Americas. She volunteered at the American Red Cross, the hospital gift shop, and the Birthright office. She often crocheted baby blankets for the Birthright office. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Tom; one sister, Clair Bernice Burkman. Surviving is her husband, I.F. "Iggy" Hartung of Aberdeen; her children: Dave (Mary Ann O'Neil) Hartung of Fruita, Colo., Mary (Dave) Klein of Sioux Falls, S.D., Mark (Joan) Hartung, John (Toni Gross) Hartung, Joe (Nancy) Hartung, all of Aberdeen, S.D., Barb (Randy) Hein of Litchfield, Minn., and Theresa (Carl) Baldwin of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
