Description	:	Elizabeth Jane Sturdy Rodrick was the daughter of Thomas Sturdy and wife of Jacob H. Rodrick. She died at her home on Jackson avenue, Lexington, Virginia, on 3 Mar 1925 at the age of 77. She had been in bad health for some time prior to her death. Read More	Elizabeth Jane Sturdy Rodrick was the daughter of Thomas Sturdy and wife of Jacob H. Rodrick. She died at her home on Jackson avenue, Lexington, Virginia, on 3 Mar 1925 at the age of 77. She had been in bad health for some time prior to her death. She was a resident of Lexington for forty years and a native of Loudoun County. Her husband Jacob died unexpectedly 26 Jun 1916 of heart failure at their home. Her daughters Cora and Minnie preceded her in death. Cora (1868-1901) was the wife of John Gwynn Pole and Minnie (1870-1920) was the wife of Henry B. Holmes. She leaves one son, Walter Rodrick, whose home is in the West. Elizabeth was intered with her husband Jacob in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery [formerly Lexington Cemetery]. She married Jacob at Harper's Ferry, 18 Sep 1867. He was born 17 Dec 1842, to Abram and Elizabeth (Kellison) Roderick, in Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. Her husband, Captain Rodrick, served with the Confederate army. Captured at Winchester, he and others made a darling escape from the federal prison at Fort Delaware, swimming the Delaware Bay to Maryland, a distance of fifteen miles. Though succeeding in reaching the Confederate lines, some time later he was again captured and taken to Camp Chase, Ohio, where he was held until the close of the war. Captain Rodrick had been in active service of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad company on the Valley branch forty-three years when he retired in August, 1913. He had charge of one of the first Baltimore and Ohio trains which came into Lexington station in 1883. Four years later he was placed in charge of one of the regular trains on the Valley schedule, a position he held until 1913. His funeral was held at Trinity Methodist church, and his body was interred in Lexington cemetery [i.e., Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery].
